"Fighting for the prevention of fires and burn injuries"
Fire Prevention and Education Programs
The Stratford Professional Firefighters Burn Foundation is committed to providing Fire Prevention and Education Programs to the residents within the Town of Stratford. We work very closely, with the Stratford Fire Marshals Office, our Local 998, I.A.F.F.and our members, in providing programs for the prevention of fires and burn related injuries.
The Stratford Professional Firefighters Burn Foundation has established the Stratford Firehawks Program. Lieutenant Tim Brennan and Firefighter Jim Mecozzi have completed the Firehawks Companion Training Program, sponsored by the State of Connecticut Commision on Fire Prevention and Control. We are working very closely with our Fire Marshals office and Stratford Community Services.
The Firehawks Program matches Juvenile Fire Setters with Fire Fighter Companions, provides youths with positive role models and educates them about the dangers of fires. Juveniles may be referred to the program by their parents or guardians, the police department, fire department, school system or Community Services.
To make a referral, or for more information, please contact Firehawks Coordinators, Lt. Tim Brennan and/or Firefighter Jim Mecozzi at 203-385-4073, or e-mail us at firehawks@spffafightingburns.org

The Children's Burn Camp was founded by the Connecticut Burns Care Foundation in 1991. It provides a one week summer camp, free to children between the ages of 8 and 18, who have survived significant burns. This camp is located in Union, Ct on 176 acres of land, where these young burn survivors can experience a one week fun filled camping experience, such as swimming, boating, hiking, archery and a premier challenge ropes course.
In 2007, our staff consisted of 79 adults caring for 65 children. This camp is staffed by career firefighters, nurses, a doctor, physical and occupational therapists, and adult burn survivors, all of whom donate their time free of charge. This staff represents every state in New England, New York State, New Jersey, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Since1994, firefighters from the Stratford Fire Department, Local 998 of the International Association of Firefighters, has donated thousands of dollars on behalf of these young burn survivors. In 1999, the Stratford Professional Firefighters Burn Foundation was founded and the work we started continues today.
We continue to support this camp through our fundraising efforts.
